Despite never having written a review before, I felt compelled to stop and share my thoughts about this book. The characters really leap out of the page to me, their humor and development are some of the best that I've ever read. The suspense was exceptionally well paced, so much so that I found my suspicions flying from one character to the next. I'd recommend the first of the series prior to this one, however, as it introduces many of the characters from this novel. Meddling neighbors, a bird that mimes movie dialogue, ghosts, and more. 100% buy this book, you'll thouroughly enjoy it.Product details

A Candidate For Murder Old Maids of Mercer Island eBook Lynn Bohart Reviews
I am delighted to find that this book is even better than book 1 in this series. When I downloaded book 2, I thought " Maybe I'll reread the first chapter of book 1 just to refresh my memory of the regular characters" and to my surprise I just kept reading through the whole book 1 because the suspense just draws you in even though you remember what's going to happen! So when I finally started Book 2, I was completely engulfed in the new adventures of Julia Applegate and her friends. I could not put it down either. Thank goodness I have a understanding husband who just quietly fixed supper and brought my plate to me. This series and its slightly paranormal touches will delight along with murders and cops and and car chases is guaranteed to please.
I am really hooked on this author's work! This book was so much fun to read...I meant to make it last a while, but read the whole thing in one go. I can't wait for the next.
I've been hooked on the Old Maids of Mercer Island since the first book. They are great fun. A Candidate For Murder is more of the same. Julia Applegate has been talked into running for mayor of Mercer against her and seemingly everyone else's enemy. The only problem is that she really doesn't want to run and by the way someone is trying to pin her opponent's attempted murder on her. Plenty of twists and turns and a bit of ghostly mischief in this book. I like these women, even if they aren't real. I hope sincerely that Ms Bohart writes more about them. Have fun, read this. It doesn't disappoint.
A light, humorous read!! Lynn Bohart writes well and her work is edited well. The characters in the Old Maids of Mercer Island books are just exactly that - characters. They are well developed and described and their antics lead them into endless situations which are funny and on occasion, hazardous. There are many twists and turns in reaching the end, although the primary villain is suspect from fairly early on. That does not detract from the journey, however, and this is a delightful read on a cold winter's day. There are a few resident ghosts which play into the story but do not overwhelm it. Fun and recommended.
I loved this book. I really like when an author develops a group of characters throughout a book, and this book does that. I love the main character and her inn. I bought this book because it sounded like it would be good. I ordered the other two that were available before I was done reading this one. I new before I got half way through that I would want to get whatever was available. I am now on the third book and there are no new ones written yet for this series. I hope I won't have to wait too long.
I loved this story and the wait for the second book in the series was well worth it! The story holds a lot of appeal as all the main gals are just normal women with keen wits and minds. Put them all together and they are a powerhouse. I won't recall the plot, but the case is gripping with a victim you love to hate. If you are new to the series, it has a bit of everything...humor, romance, intrigue and even a few ghosts. But apart from that, it's a good whodunit with a cat of characters all worthy of being guilty. Kept me guessing and I was very wrong about who was behind the murder! To the author.....write faster! I can't wait to see what mischief the ladies get caught up in next!
In the first book due to a suicide of one of their friends the Old Maids decided to do all the activities they've always wished they'd done. Somewhere in the writing of the second book the author didn't carry that idea further. It would have been a nice addition to the plot to hear how all of the women did with their new activities.
I hardly think this series of mysteries is in any way a "cozy" mystery. The plots of both books are extremely realistic from bringing young Mexican girls into the country & promising them good jobs & instead making them be prostitutes & the gang sold their babies not caring what happened to the young women. To this second book where the girls try to help their sworn enemy.
Despite never having written a review before, I felt compelled to stop and share my thoughts about this book. The characters really leap out of the page to me, their humor and development are some of the best that I've ever read. The suspense was exceptionally well paced, so much so that I found my suspicions flying from one character to the next.
